swimming is awesome!

Hello!
A brand new crispy Fall day!
I am feeling a little "giddy-up" to my step today.

My entire day started last night, I worked late, and committed last night to hit swim practice this morning. And I am glad I ever did! I knew no matter how exhausted I was when I woke, that the water would be theraputic, and start my day off right!

A beautiful drive to the pool, and a good Sunday morning session. Thankfully the coach made the practice a very interesting one with lots of stroke work, as opposed to big longer sets. I loved the extra rest between sets today, and especially the feeling of the water on my body. It just felt good. Swimming and water are amazing! No matter your swim speed, it is just theraputic. I could lay all my stresses of life aside, and swim. Ahhhhhhhhhh!

My friends and fellow swimmers today were having fun, and getting in our morning dip...wow! Just awesome!

That's it, Happy Sunday!

G.O.Y.A. (get off your ass)

The subliminal message that seems current in my life right now is G.O.Y.A. (Get Off Your Ass!)

Ya ya ya ya....economic times are tough, but what does that really mean...START THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX, and not succumb to everyone's neurosis about it. I have learned to delete/delete/delete and not get caught up in it.

I make an honest effort to do what propels me forward and keep me from being stuck. I must admit, there are times when this is a challenge, but when you set GOYA into action, it never fails that good things happen, and momentum starts to build....again, propelling you forward.

Today I am inspired by other "GOYA" peeps. Women and Men who are courageous, through good times and rough times, staying positive and even when all signs seems to say NO, do it anyway.

I believe this is a foundation of success in athletics as well. It is taught by good coaches, that you don't ever give up! You finish through and through with your best efforts...we would never have fabulous comebacks from the "underdogs" of competition if we just gave up. And just imagine, this skill learned in athletics, is completely applicable to life....never give up, even when the chips are down.

I have a cool saying on my wall near my desk...it reads

Never let the odds
keep you from doing
what you know in your heart
you were meant to do

This statement speaks so clearly, and the ultimate question is:
Why can't that someone be me? I am the one who can do it! I am the one!

And it is with that simple thought I leave you with today.

Today's inspiration-Bill Cosby

So today, I was at the hairdresser, fiddling while waiting for the "cooking of the hair color" to be done...and I picked up the closest magazine I could reach, and flipped through EBONY MAGAZINE.

I thought, "cool, never read this before" I'm interested.

I read about Bill Cosby. This was most informative. The article started with "yes, he was known as a comedian, but he is now controversial to his own Black Culture". I kept reading...what were they saying?

Today Bill Cosby tours the US preaching to Black communities about RESPONSIBILITY, and SELF RELIANCE. I found this fascinating, because the article quoted that some in the Black community were angry with him for pointing this out, and encouraging people to make better choices, no longer taking the victim mentality. He inspires others to take an honest look at themselves, and their attitudes, and "step-up" to do it better and different. Primarily for the sake of leading by example, the children are watching, and learning at every moment.

What I liked about the article was really the value of the point being made, which is SHOULDN'T WE ALL BE RESPONSIBLE & SELF RELIANT? He asks, Why blame others for our circumstances? Most people blame, because it is easier....it is harder to have courage, stand up and do "what is right", have integrity, dignity and a healthy balance of humility.

Yes, Bill directed his tour to the Black community, but isn't this a worldwide message for everyone? BUT no one wants to hear about it....he gets shunned for his honest message and the feedback he is giving.

Bill's interview helped me reflect on the choices we each have, and that it is important for us to recognize our choices. No one is controlling you, that only happens if you let it. I reflected on some of the things I have made a priority in my life, and that it is that simple that anyone can make changes by knowing their priorities.

I work hard at surrounding myself with really good people. We feed off of each other's positive energy and forward momentum, it is soo much fun! One my biggest lessons in life is that life is a weeding out process, weeding out what is not so good for me, and letting in what is good for me. I can choose who to get my info from, what to believe, what direction I am going in, who I spend my valuable time with, and who I share myself with.

Life being full of choices is cool!

What are you choosing today?

ACTION OF THE DAY: smiling and saying hello to a stranger & striking up conversation is a great choice, try it, you might like it!

Why I want to blog

So I have put a little thought into what I really wanted this blog to be about...and during my run this morning on the treadmill I decided that after my search online yesterday of other athletic women driven blogs, that I did not want to "highlight" negative stuff in the media here.

This is for the good stuff, inspiring stuff, because there is sooo much of it that is going on around us, but you rarely hear of it in the forefront of the media, you actually have to DIG for it!

I workout everyday, and still race and compete in several different sports, and it is amazing how many athletic women I meet, seasoned or new-bees, who are just being courageous and DOING IT. They are embracing and DOING what they know is good for them.

I read a blurb yesterday on another blog about a woman and her relentless excuses of why she can't find the time to exercise, yet she sure could tell you all the episodes of OPRAH she watched. Think about that....she has time set aside, a priority to her, to sit and watch TV...yet that precious hour could be dedicated to buying better groceries for her family, or even exercising herself.

Just recently I met a swimmer at the pool, and she inspired me. She is a Mom of two boys, she is committed to the sports that she loves as she knows it is what makes her happy, and makes her a better Mom. She maintains perspective that without her being happy, she can't spread it to her children. (remember the airplane oxygen mask theory...she takes care of herself so that she can be there to take care of her children fully)

She inspires me because she is not a media mogul, or actress, she is genuine person with dignity, integrity and I appreciate that(not that media peeps don't have that..). She strives for balance and maintains an athleticism amongst it all. I love success stories, from all types...and success is defined in so many ways....not just in the media, so I love to hear them all.

These are my thoughts for today, maybe more later...

This is soooo coool!

I am a NEW blogger!
How exciting!!!

I am here to post some cool stuff that is going on with the LIFE of the Athletic Woman.

I think this is a great place to share some of my life experiences from being an athlete my whole life, and the lessons it has taught me about LIFE along the way.

My passion for the joy that athletics has given me (mind you, lots of ups and downs I wouldn't change for the world) has led to my greatest adventure yet, owning my own company providing the coolest product for athletic woman on the market!

I am not letting the cat completely out of the bag with all the details yet, but as today, I am a new blogger, and enjoying it!

WOO! HOO! I love adventure and trying out new things!
